Another lesson from Arthur Whitney

I am a fan of Arthur Whitney. ATW listed two programmers he considered superlative, djb and Fabrice Bellard.

He said, "I think the main difference is that really good programmers will manage complexity in a way that most cannot." Good engineers manage complexity beyond the normal person.

One thing ATW also taught us is his laser-like focus. You can't find him, and he doesn't write anything, but his works often amaze you.

A good craftsman is first and foremost extremely focused. In this era of excessive downstream bandwidth, focus is a difficult thing. I suspect that human design cannot handle so much information input, now information is too easy.

Close the curtains and leave only a beam of laser light.

You can do anything.
